Fushimi, the land of sake

Fushimi Chusyojima

Fushimi Inari Shrine is not the only place worth seeing in Fushimi.
Walking the streets, you will see sake sold from storefronts in traditional Japanese houses everywhere. Fushimi is blessed with an …moreabundance of high-quality groundwater, and it is famous throughout Japan for making smooth, mellow sake. If you are interested in Japanese sake, the sake tasting experience at Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum is highly recommended.
During the cherry blossom season, it is nice to enjoy the good old port town on a leisurely pleasure boat cruise underneath the blooming cherry trees with the sake breweries for a backdrop.
The Hanagasa Festival held in fall is well-known as the largest festival in the southern part of Kyoto, and there is a parade through the streets with large, colorfully decorated umbrellas, called “hanagasa,” made by the locals.
