Uji

When it comes to Must-see spots in Uji, look no further than Byodoin. It started from a villa owned by the incredibly influential Fujiwara clan that was turned into a temple, and the Phoenix Hall, built in the middle of the 10th century, still retains …moreits original appearance today.
Repairs were completed in 2014, and it is definitely worth seeing the reflection of the pillars, painted a rich deep red, and the pair of golden fenghuang (a Chinese phoenix) statues in the pond. Byodoin also has many national treasures on display, and their range of goods designed for modern needs make popular souvenirs.
Uji is also one of the leading producers of fine Japanese tea, and the scenic beauty of the Uji River makes it a popular sightseeing spot as well. In addition to Byodoin, there are smaller shrines, temples, and other places of interest scattered around the area, making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely stroll.
