Enjoy a tea time in a classy cafe while looking over Shirakawa River
Why don't you take a break at Au Temps Perdu located close to a large vermilion Torii gate of Heian Jingu Shrine? The cafe mainly offers wonderful tea time menu items such as quiche, cakes and more. It is highly recommended that you order an original herb tea called "Aubepine" which you can only enjoy in Japan、As there are a lot of beautiful looking cakes that are displayed in a showcase near the entrance of the cafe, these will certainly catch your eyes. If you select their terrace seats, you will enjoy your time while listening to the sound of Takase River running right by the side. Enjoy well-made cake with a cup of tea or coffee comfortably in this cafe!

Au Temps Perdu offers French food for almost reasonable prices, especially during lunch, when their lunch menu goes for 1800 yen. The tastes are all bold and somewhat adventurous, especially for Kyoto. They have seats outside which is something not that common in Japan, and which for me raises my rating of this restaurant half a point.

This French restaurant is right by Heian Shrine. Even though the restaurant offers French food, it is casual and spacious making you feel welcome. I want to especially recommend the terrace by the Shirawaka River. Their signature dish is their famous quiche, which with its crunchy crust tastes really delicious. Many people come to this restaurant just to have their quiche. They also have a good selection of cakes, so if you are around Heian Shrine please come taste them!
