Handmade delights enjoyed by Maiko and Geiko of Kyoto
In a quiet area off Gion, Beni Yuki serves freshly made apple pies, pizza, curry, sandwiches, spaghetti and more. Coffee is brewed with Nel Drip method making each cup of coffee oh-so-perfect. All of the café items are well thought out making this 18-year old café an experienced master of original flavors. Almost everything is hand-made including bread, pie, and ice cream. This 90-year old house is a café during the day and a lounge during the night. The café is also enjoyed by Maiko and Geiko in the area on their days off. If you are lucky, you may encounter one when you make a visit here!

Both apple pie and ice cream are handmade! With the hint of red wine flavor from the sauce, the apple pie is so heartwarming with the perfect sweetness. The ice cream is made with Manuka honey, giving it a distinct taste that matches very well with the warm pie.

The café is located in near Hanamachi, or district of Maiko and Geiko. On off-days of busy Maiko and Geiko, some visit the café leaving their name stickers which are often used like business cards. Because of the surrounding temples in the area, many Buddhist Monks also visit the café for some coffee.

I have heard that this place used to be an accommodation, but I was surprised to see the entrance with slippers lined up! Just like entering a Japanese house, you will have to slip into a pair of slippers. The inside is decorated very nicely and the environment feels unique but warm and homey at the same time. The owner is friendly and very talented at creating food. The apple pie is a must eat along with a freshly brewed coffee!
