Enjoy the local cuisine of Sendai in Kyoto Station!
Gyu-tan, beef tongue, is originally from Sendai city where is located in the north of Japan. However, you can taste the local cuisine of Sendai city in Kyoto! Gyu-tan is a charcoal grilled beef tongue. It is chewy and meat juice is coming out as you bite. If you order a set meal, beef tail soup, wheat rice and Japanese pickles would come along. This beef tail soup would make you refreshed after having the juicy beef tongue. What is different from other Japanese restaurant is that they would offer a wheat rice that goes perfectly well with beef tongue. If you have a difficulty of having beef tongue, they also offer a beef steak which is also juicy and tasty.

Every time you chew, the meat juice is coming out and fills your mouth with the rich flavor. If you have a difficulty of having beef tongue, they also offer this beef steak set! The beef steaks are very soft and the sauce on top of them matches well with wheat rice. Different from the western steaks, this steak is cut into pieces, so it is easy to eat. You may find it tasty to have steak with wheat rice in this restaurant!
Tororo, grated yam
3Let's Try!
Tororo, grated yam / ¥162
If you are not familiar with the term “Tororo”, this is a grated yam. It is white and sticky type of yam. We sometimes put it on the rice as a topping. Traditionally, it is put on the wheat rice and eaten with beef tongue. It makes the whole meal more flavorful and milder, so please try putting it on your rice!
How to Order

As I am originally from Sendai city, it was such a pleasure to have my local cuisine here in Kyoto! And the taste of beef tongue was exactly the same as I eat in my hometown. I have met several foreign friends who cannot eat beef tongue, so I also recommend that you have beef steak in this restaurant as it is very juicy and soft. I also suggest that you put tororo, the grated yam, on your rice as it make the whole meal more flavorful!
