A Famous Unagi Restaurant with a 100-Year History in the Heart of the Shopping District

Kyogoku Kaneyo

/ 京極かねよ
Kyogoku Kaneyo
“Kyogoku Kaneyo” is an unagi restaurant that has been loved for around 100 years, located close to the Hankyu Corporation Kawaramachi station, right at the heart of the bustling shopping district. Its two-floored wooden construction looks very different to the stores around it, and the atmosphere is delightful; you can watch the chef at work cooking unagi from a window outside. Inside, the restaurant is steeped in Japanese style and atmosphere. The second floor is a tatami room with floor seatin...moreg. The unagi is prepared with a long-kept secret sauce and cooked with a technique that has been passed down from generation to generation. Also of note is the store’s famous dish, “Kinshidon,” which is made with unagi and Japanese omelette and has quite an impact in both taste and looks.

Less known but widely loved by both tourists and locals. Recommended if your schedule permits.
Good for Fans
Hideaway shops and spots of worthwhile destination. Recommended if you are keen on these genres.
For Enthusiasts
Very popular among enthusiasts on these genres. Not always suitable if you are not particularly interested.
The first floor has tables and chairs, and the second floor is traditional floor seating. We recommend those who aren’t so good at sitting on the floor for long periods sit on the first floor.
1Must Eat !
Kinshidon / S ¥2,100 M ¥2,800 L ¥3,600
A dish comprised of a Japanese omelette placed on top of unagi. The juicy and fragrant unagi and its juices are a perfect complement to the delightfully soft and delicious omelette.
2Must Eat !
Kimosui / ¥350
A must-try soup made with eel liver. The contrast between the richly flavored unagi and the refreshing soup is a delight to taste.
3Let's Try !
Umaki / ¥900
Unagi wrapped in Japanese omelette and thinly sliced. Added to an Unagi-don (rice bowl), this is perfect for those times when you want to eat just a little bit more!
4Let's Try !
Kimoyaki / ¥900
This dish consists of eel liver braised with a rich sauce. Its slightly bitter taste goes perfectly with Japanese Sake, and if the livers are removed from the skewer with chopsticks before eating, they’re perfect for sharing.
How to Order & Eat
Kyogoku Kaneyo How to Order & Eat

Kyogoku Kaneyo How to Order & EatOur recommendation is to first try either the standard “Unagi Don” or the “Kinshi Don” (which includes a Japanese omelette). Those wishing to order extra “Soup”, beer or sake may like to order some “single dishes” as well.
- Order Tips -
To order the chef’s recommended sake to complement your meal, use the following phrase.
“Osusume no Osake wo kudasai.”
(Please give me your recommended sake.)
