Pontocho Robin
Pontocho, located in the bustling and very atmospherically Japanese downtown district of Kawaramachi in Kyoto, is a popular spot among tourists. Located here in Pontocho is the Japanese restaurant Pontocho Robin, housed in a 150 year old renovated town house. At the end of an alleyway on a stone paved street lit by streetlamps、 is the entrance, beyond which is a wooden building and a small garden, with a large window facing the Kamo River. This is a restaurant filled with the emblematic Japanese...more atmosphere of Kyoto. The chefs use seasonal ingredients, and diners enjoy painstakingly prepared cuisine and Kyoto-brewed sake. Highly recommended are the multicourse meals, filled with the delicious taste and allure of Japanese cuisine, including sashimi and grilled fish using fresh seafood, and assortments of beautifully colorful small dishes. A la carte items include meat dishes prepared with Japanese beef. Between May and September, diners can take part in the Kyoto summer tradition of Yuka seating(outdoor floor seating along the Kamo River), relaxing in the comfortable breeze while enjoying their meal.
This restaurant provides an atmosphere worthy of the city of Kyoto, with genuine Japanese cuisine. Diners in search of such a place should definitely check out Pontocho Robin.

Sea Eel Otoshi(de-boned) / ¥2,300 (+tax)
It is a tradition in Kyoto to eat sea eel in summer. The skill of a professional chef is apparent in his ability to prepare sea eel to be easily edible by removing the bones. The sea eel at Pontocho Robin is prepared to be easy-to-eat, while still retaining its soft texture. Sea eel has a plain and refreshing taste. We recommend the sauce prepared with the delicious acidic flavor of ume(Japanese plums).
