Tendon (tempura over rice) prepared with giant prawns and fried right in front of your seat
This tempura restaurant is located right in the center of Gion. The lunch menu consists of only rice bowls with tempura. The dinner menu provides diners with various courses using an original take on tempura. We would now like to introduce you to the lunch menu. There are a total of four different rice bowls available. Their most famous dish is the "BIG PRAWN TENDON". which has two amazingly large tempura prawns sticking out of the rice bowl. This is one big and hearty meal, with the added fun of watching the chef fry up the tempura right in front of your eyes.

Two giant tempura prawns combine with seasonal vegetable tempura on top of rice. The refreshing sauce makes a great combination with the savory fried tempura breading.

Tempura course
4Let's Try!
Tempura course / ¥5,000
This is the dinner tempura course. *Note that they do not serve tempura rice bowls mentioned above at dinner. You get five small plates, 13 pieces of tempura, rice, and a dessert. The ingredients used for the small plates and tempura change monthly. The tempura is the main actor in this course, and each piece is carefully fried, and served to you piping hot. They catch fish from the fish tank behind the counter, and fry it right away – just looking at this is fun. When eating you are advised on what to dip your tempura into – the mentsuyu sauce (with grated daikon in it), lemon, curry powder, salt, or matcha salt. This way you don’t need to worry about what to dip your tempura with and get to eat it at with the condiment that most fits its taste. You can choose the rice from a tempura rice bowl or ochazuke (rice with tea and dashi stock). If you’re feeling full, I recommend choosing the ochazuke. The tea makes it feel light and it’s easy to eat even when full. The dessert served at Tensyu is a hojicha pudding, which has a rich fragrance of hojicha and silky texture to it, and a taste that is so good many people visit this restaurant just to enjoy this pudding. If you want to enjoy tempura to the fullest in Kyoto, this is a great place to do it, as the course is also pretty cheap for this amount of tempura and when you also take into consideration the quality of it – it’s not often in Kyoto that you can get a course meal like this in Kyoto for only 5,000 yen!
How to Order

We recommend the BIG PRAWN TENDON, but those who would like to eat eel as well should order the MIXTENDON. The table includes Japanese pepper, 7 spice powder, as well as green tea powder salt for you to season your dish to your liking.

- Order Tips -
