Tsubame meaning Swallow bird, is a café with natural ambience serving Teishoku, or a lunch set, in Ichijo-ji area. Although the Daily Lunch is the only meal available, locals can frequently visit the café for lunch because the detail of it changes.

The food served at Tsubame have the wholesome nutrients of home-cooked style meals that can be enjoyed with a piece of mind. A small cafe near the popular Keibunsha book store in Ichijoji. I enjoyed my lunch here, it was so healthy and delicious! The area have many unique stores, many people like to stroll around here. Stop by Tsubame when you are in the area, they also have excellent desserts!

Daily lunch – Chicken Nanban / ¥850
Daily lunch, or in Japanese, “Kyo no Teishoku” is changed every day. The daily lunch contains a main dish, rice, miso soup, pickles and a side dish. The details of the day’s lunch set are written on the chalk board in Japanese. The main dish pictured on the left is “Chicken Nanban,” pieces of fried chicken with special tartar sauce. On the side is Komatsuna vegetables seasoned with white miso. Multi-grain rice and miso soup with vegetables provides a nutritious meal.

Incredible combination of cooked apple with ice cream and rum raisins! Soft in texture but vivid in color, the red apple visually looks like a red juicy tomato. This is a well-coordinated parfait perfect for an icy dessert.

Ume juice (plum) / ¥400
Made in-house, this Ume juice, or plum juice is refreshingly good. It has a slightly tart taste, excellent to quench your thirst. You can also get it as a hot drink instead of iced. Add it with the lunch set and get a discount of ¥150.

Coffee (type of coffee served changed monthly) / ¥400
Tsubame uses coffee beans from a Ooya Coffee, a roaster in northern part of Kyoto. Every month, the type of coffee beans used in the café changes. The coffee beans used at this time around (January 2016) was single-origin Colombian medium roast. Enjoy it with the lunch set and receive a discount of ¥150.
