Another C offers you modern Japanese cuisine of such skill and quality it wouldn’t feel out of place in New York nor Tokyo
Another C is a restaurant run by chef Tominaga. The restaurant only seats eight people at a time! So getting to dine here is an exclusive experience, but at the same time, chef Tominaga makes sure that you feel relaxed and have nice, full glass of wine at hand. Oh, and just to mention, he speaks fluent English and has worked in some of the best restaurants in New York. The restaurant itself is located on the fourth floor of a very normal-looking building, and it doesn’t even have a sign on its door. But as the door is a glass door, you can see inside and recognize Another C instantly, for the warm-colored lighting of the restaurant makes the atmosphere something you’ll know right away. (Don’t worry about finding the restaurant though; they do have a sign on the first floor.)
Kyoto x NY Another C’s Classic Dinner / 10,000 yen (+tax)
At Another C, they have no menu. Or you could say the menu changes daily, as chef Tominaga buys only the best seasonal ingredients available at Nishiki Market, famously known as the kitchen of Kyoto. What is special about the dinner course at Another C is that it starts with steak, which when we went to Another C was Satsuma Wagyu from Kyushu. This is just one part of Another C’s heartfelt hospitality; chef Tominaga wants you to enjoy the wagyu steak in the beginning, because this way you won’t be feeling full and can taste the full potential of the steak.
Afternoon rosé wine
It seems like in other places of the word, rosé wines are in vogue right now. Another C is making sure that they’re going to become a thing in Kyoto too. One of Another C’s specialties is that they offer wines from New York, most of which you almost never see in Japan. The dry taste of the Wölffer Estate rosé we had was a surprisingly good choice to have with the wagyu steak.
Look at how chef Tominaga works his magic
One of the best parts of your experience at Another C is that every seat is a counter seat, and you get to see, up close, how chef Tominaga actually makes his dishes. Getting to see all the effort that goes into these delectable dishes just makes them also taste that much better; you have an appreciation for the dish you’re eating.
Enjoy the night view
When it gets dark, Another C looks even better. The streetlights shine into the restaurant and make the mood at the restaurant feel a bit romantic, but Another C must be at its most romantic in spring when you can enjoy the cherry blossoms of the Takase River from it.
How to Order
Sometimes it may be a bit hard to decide which drinks to have with which dish, but don’t worry; at Another C you can leave this to chef Tominaga. We were extremely happy with the drink choices he made for us.
