Sake, ice cream, and baumkuchen at Fushimi Yume Hyakushu Café
Fushimi Yume Hyakushu Café is in Fushimi (as you probably guessed from the name), an area famous for its quality of water and sake brewing. The café is located in a huge traditional Japanese building that used to be the headquarters of Gekkeikan. The café is run by an NPO called Fushimi Kanko Kyokai that works to promote the area of Fushimi. At Fushimi Yume Hyakushu Café you can enjoy sweets with sake; their specialty is the sake affogato, ice cream served not with an espresso shot, but with a cup of sake. In fact, most of the sweets served here contain sake in one form or other. They also have a souvenir shop where you can buy all kinds of sake and even soy sauce!
Sake affogato

Sake affogato / ¥650
What could be better than ice cream and an espresso shot? Ice cream and sake of course! This refreshing sake affogato is a dessert you must try if you like ice cream and sake. The sweetness of the ice cream and the taste of the sake (or yuzu liqueur, you get to choose) go together wonderfully.

They have many options when it comes to sake tasting, so you can choose a set that has sake that you like, whether it be sweet or dry. We chose the Mattari set, as it contained a special sake you can only taste at Fushimi Yume Hyakushu: Junmai-Ginjo Momo. They also have explanations of the many classifications of sake such as ginjoshu, junmaishu, honjoshu, and so on, on the menu.

Samurai sake cocktail / ¥600
This sake cocktail contains sake and lime juice and makes for a refreshing drink on a hot day, thanks to the ice cube in it. The lime goes surprisingly well with sake and helps you find a completely new way of enjoying this ancient Japanese alcoholic beverage.
Sake baumkuchen
4Let's Try!
Sake baumkuchen / ¥700
This baumkuchen cake takes the best parts of the German cake and mixes in something very Japanese: sake. The sake gives this cake a nice, natural sweetness, which in turn also makes it go really well with a cup of sake.

This place is wonderful if you want to take a break when sightseeing in Fushimi. They have something for everyone: coffee, ice cream, sake, cakes… The prices are pretty cheap, the cakes tasty, and the sake even better.

Fushimi is an area famous for sake, so there are of course many shops selling sake here! The most special thing about Fushimi Yume Hyakushu is that they have sake affogato and sake baumkuchen on their menu. By pouring sake on top of vanilla ice cream, you get to experience the fragrance of sake even more than normal. The baumkuchen is thick, moist, and has a slight fragrance of sake; its taste is very special. The shop sells over 100 types of sake, so buy some as souvenirs!
