A huge turnout! The monthly bargain-hunt
The To-ji Kobo Market is a market that takes place in To-ji, near To-ji Station on the Kintetsu Train Kyoto Line, on the 21st of every month. Although To-ji is most famous for its five-story pagoda, on this day every month, around 1000 textile and antique stores that sell items such as ceramic crockery and food stalls gather. Huge crowds of visitors gather as well. This is an event that has been loved by the people of Kyoto for over 700 years. Feel free to come and get a good deal on your favorite products or even just to enjoy a wander with no particular aim at all. You might just find an absolute bargain.

There are two big flea markets in Kyoto held every month, one of them is Kitano Tenmangu's Tenjin-san and the other is this event, To-ji Temple's Kobo Market. The temple is only a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station. Even when the flea market is held on weekdays as many as hundred thousand people visit the market. There are many different kinds of shops here so just looking is fun. There are many locals, but lately also many people from outside of Kyoto, so I wish you will also visit the market!
