Things to do
Over 400 cherry blossoms like a flower carpet blooming for the entire season

Hirano Shrine

/ 平野神社
Hirano Shrine is famous for the place where more than 60 types of cherry blossoms and approximately 400 trees are planted. Among them, 10 types are uncommon species of cherry blossoms and are special to the shrine. Especially sakigake sakura, which you can see from the main gate, is said to signal the start of cherry blossom season in Kyoto when it blooms. The blooming period differs according to the type of cherry blossoms, typically between late March and end of April, so that you could see th...moree icon of Japan, sakura, for at least 1 month.

The shrine offers some items that are related to cherry blossoms such as a paper fortune, ema (to write your wishes on it in order to come true), and more. Those are very fun items to get on your visit.

Places such as Kinkaku-ji Temple and Kitano Tenmangu Temple are easy to access to and from Hirano Shrine. If you would like to go around several temples or shrines in a short time, Hirano Shrine is a must-go place to start.

It is personally the first time to visit there. Even though I visited there before the time of cherry blossom season, I had a great time! It is because that there are some fantastic items sold that are designed cherry blossom. Especially, ema is written on the words, “Sakura saku” that means your wishes come true. Japanese people say that when our fortune got true, we say Sakura saku instead. When their cherry blossom blooms, they are lighted up at night! Why don’ you visit there to see another ...moreface of them!
