National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto (MOMAK)/ 京都国立近代美術館
National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto is located close to Heian-jingu Shrine and Okazaki Park and has a gallery and a film center as well. Movies are shown bi-monthly. The movie is held in April, Jun, July, August, and October in 2015. Check the website for the most current schedule. National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto have not only Japanese contemporary arts, but also European and American arts as well.

The 4th Floor's Lobby Where Heian-jingu Shrine Torii Can Be Seen
National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto is very close to Heian-jingu Shrine. The upper Heian-jingu Shrine torii gate from the 4th floor lobby can be seen from here. Please enjoy this unexpected view!

The gallery has some works of nihonga (Japanese-style paintings), yōga (western-style paintings), prints, sculpture, crafts (ceramics, textiles, metal works, wood and bamboo works, lacquers, and jewelry), and photography.

Cafe 505 is glass-walled and faces to a river. You can enjoy coffee, tea, cake, and light meal while seeing a beautiful landscape. Terrace seats are popular as a great spot where people can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring. Unfortunately, reservations are not accepted.
