People tend to not stick around Kyoto Station for long especially with plans to tour the city. But if you find out about some places that are worth a visit, you may think twice about not staying! Either taking out some time out of your trip to tour the area or have some left over time before heading out, there are all sorts of places to visit around Kyoto Station.
Fun New Attraction
Kyoto Rail Museum
Kyoto Rail Museum
The museum reopened in 2016 as Kyoto Rail Museum which features five exhibitions all very entertaining and gives a great learning experience to visitors. If you love trains or want to learn about rail history in Japan, this is a must-go museum!
One-stop Away Temples
Tofuku-ji Temple
Tofuku-ji Temple
It’s located just one stop away from Kyoto Station on JR Nara Line. It would be great to consider this temple as your first sightseeing spot in Kyoto. Great scenery can be enjoyed here with beautiful gardens.
To-ji Temple
To-ji Temple
Check out the tallest 5-story Pagoda in Japan! It’s located one stop away from Kyoto Station on Kintetsu Train or about 15 minute walk from Kyoto Station. On 21st of every month, flea market is held with a wide range of valuable Japanese antiques. If you get a chance to visit, it’s recommended!
Fun Spots for a Quick Visit
Kyoto Tower
Kyoto Tower
It’s a beautiful landmark of Kyoto built with an image of a lighthouse. You can view the city from the observation deck with admission fee of 770 yen per adult and 520 yen per child. Underneath the observation area are some restaurants as well as a public bathhouse.
Art Museum Eki

A very easy-to-access art museum located on the 7th floor inside Isetan Department Store. The exhibits change regularly (usually every month) in variety of genres. If you have a transit card for example, ICOCA or Suica, you can get a 200 yen off of an entrance fee of 800 yen!
Cultural Experience at a Public Bath

Kyoto Tower Public Bathhouse ~YUU~
Have a cultural experience and get refreshed at the same time! This public bath is located underneath Kyoto Tower. It went through renovation in 2012 and welcomes guests from 7am each day. ※It was closed in June 2021.
