A complete guide to Fushimi Inari Shrine
Part 4

Get some cute souvenirs and eat some great food and snacks by Fushimi Inari Shrine

After going to Fushimi Inari Shrine, some of you may have gotten a bit tired and want to take a break. There are many shops and food stalls on the street going up to the shrine. Many of the shops around the shrine have been in business for hundreds of years so there is a kind of nostalgic feeling around the area. Look below for the shops and restaurants we think are worth a visit:
Inafuku

This restaurant is famous for the grilled quail and sparrow that are grilled in front of the restaurant. These birds are grilled whole, and the historic reason for this is said to be the aforementioned bird control.

Because the birds are grilled whole they may look not very appetizing, but the taste is surprisingly good. I hope you have the courage to try a grilled bird at least once!
Hogyokudo

Cookies shaped like the face of a fox are a popular Fushimi Inari souvenir. Here at Hogyokudo, the cookies are baked one by one, all by hand; the cookies are made using white miso and you will get the gentle taste of white miso from the first bite.

The shopkeeper is really polite, so when you go to Fushimi Inari Shrine I hope you will also get some cookies.
Fushimi Inari Shrine is, of course, the main attraction around this area, but there are many interesting shops around it too, many of which sell unique items like fox cookies.
