Story & Recommendation
Munchen - Long-standing Kyoto beer hall open from lunch!
Located near the Hankyu Kyoto-kawaramachi Station, Munchen should be the first name on anyone's lips when talking about classic German beer halls in Kyoto
First opened in 1952 as a “restaurant for draft beer and western food,” Munchen has been loved by locals for over half a century.
As the bar serves “general western food,” it has a varied selection of dishes that are all tasty as heck!
Aside from their huge menu, one of the greatest things about Munchen is the fact that it's open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.!
Certainly one of the reasons why they have so many fans, this means that you can enjoy amazing grub morning, noon and night! (well maybe not morning...)

As the name beer hall suggests, Munchen is especially known for its beer which come in all sorts of varieties and sizes. If Kyoto didn't have so many craft beer bars now, Munchen would be like a desert oasis offering beer instead of water!
As its been around for nearly 70 years, Munchen also has a wonderful retro vibe as well. So if you've had your fill of Japanese food, why not kick back at Munchen and enjoy some familiar western food over a nice cold pint?

Also, don't worry if you can't speak Japanese because the owner has pretty good English and is super friendly.
Hop off at the Hankyu Kyoto-kawaramachi Station or Keihan Gion-Shijo Station for the quickest route.
