Top Bars and Cafes to Enjoy Kamogawa River’s Noryo-Yuka Terraces!

Summertime in Kyoto means the opening of the famous Kamogawa River noryo-yuka terraces. These terraces are known for being the best spots to enjoy traditional Japanese Kaiseki dinners with a view of the Kamogawa River. However, as traditional Japanese restaurants aren’t the only ones with these terraces, we decided to put together a list of our top bars and cafes that also offer these relaxing summer staples!
Top Bars and Cafes

From May until the end of Sepetember, the noryo-yuka terraces on the banks of the Kamogawa River open to the public.

Most people in Japan think of uptight traditional Japanese Kaiseki dinners when they hear “noryo-yuka,” but there are actually a plethora of other restaurants that offer these terraces too.

In this article, we’re going to introduce bars–perfect for post-dinner drinks–and cafes that feature these famous river-side terraces.

Grab your family or some friends and relax as you gaze out at the star-studded night sky above the Kamogawa River.

Starbucks Coffee Kyoto-Sanjo-Ohashi is the only Starbucks in the world to feature a riverside terrace. Located next to the Sanjo Ohashi bridge, this Starbucks is made up of a ground floor, a basement floor, and is known for its bright, spacious interior.

Another beloved aspect of this Starbucks is the fact that you can sit out on the river-side noryo-yuka terrace and enjoy a coffee while gazing out over the Kamogawa River!

Grab yourself a coffee and enjoy Kyoto’s beautiful scenery from this river-side terrace, open only during the summer.

Kawa Cafe

Kawa Cafe 1Kawa Cafe 2Situated in a renovated Kyoto townhouse right off the Kamogawa River, Kawa Café offers traditional French cuisine cooked up by their French-born chef.

With its crunchy pie crust and melty cheese, Kawa Café’s quiche is one of the most popular items on the menu.

This café stocks a wide variety of wines as well, so is perfect for those wanting to grab a drink with their lunch.

Salon de Royal Kyoto

Salon de Royal Kyoto 1Salon de Royal Kyoto 2At the specialty chocolatier Salon de Royal Kyoto, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Kamogawa River through the large glass windows that separate the interior from the outdoor seating area.

In addition to chocolate, Salon de Royal Kyoto also offer desserts such as cakes and macarons as well.

Also, with every drink order, you will receive one of their world-famous chocolates as well, so we highly recommend taking the time out to visit.

BAR Atlantis

BAR Atlantis 1BAR Atlantis 2With over 400 types of alcohol available, Bar Atlantis is the only place to offer an outdoor bar counter, right on the river-side terrace.

Our recommendation for the summer months is the refreshing, minty mojito.

BAR Atlantis also offer an absolute myriad of fresh fruit cocktails as well, making them super popular with the ladies of Kyoto.

Grab yourself a drink and enjoy the beautiful evening sunset on a nice summers day.
