November and December are the months of autumnal foliage, and although many events were cancelled in Kyoto due to COVID-19, but this year some spots that they hold a special night viewing event as usual.
That's why I'd like to put the list of all the spots that will be lit up and introduce you to them. If you're in Japan, I hope you'll come to visit these spots.
Kita Masajo (Nene), the official residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, built this temple for Hideyoshi.During the autumn leaves season, the lights are a popular feature. You can see the view of the garden as shown in the photo, with the Garyoro and the autumn leaves reflecting in the pond. And I also recommend the bamboo forest filled with mysterious light.
It is said to be the most beautiful of them all, with the fall colors and the national treasures of Sanmon and Yuzen Garden. The water surface of the pond in Yuzen Gardenr reflects the brilliant colors of the autumn leaves, just like a mirror. This is probably the best place to take pictures in Chionin!
Kifune Shrine has a lovely quiet atmosphere during the day, but at night, surrounded by bright red maples, lanterns and warm lights, it changes the atmosphere of the grounds very much. There are a lot of lanterns on the stone steps, which illuminate the approach to the path and the autumn leaves, which is a unique sight.
Kiyomizu-dera Temple is one of the most popular places in Kyoto, visited by many tourists from all over the world. The main hall, a national treasure, and the stage of Kiyomizu Temple, the Niomon Gate, and the Three-Storied Pagoda are also illuminated, and together with the mysterious atmosphere, they make the temple feel completely different from what it feels during the daytime. It's a famous place so it's crowded, but it's worth a visit.
