Cute parfaits you can have at new and trendy cafes!

In part 3 you got to learn about the classic parfait teahouses of Kyoto, but in part 4 we have some recently opened trendy cafes where you can enjoy some cool sweets. You can, of course, have matcha parfaits in Kyoto, but you shouldn’t forget about fruit and chocolate parfaits!

eX Café

This café, eX Café, is in an old mansion in Arashiyama, and inside the remodeled mansion the atmosphere is prestigious and quiet. Their most famous menu item is named after the famous sightseeing spot nearby, Tenryu-ji Temple, and it’s called “Tenryu-ji Parfait.” This parfait contains a luxurious assortment of ingredients, matcha and hojicha ice cream, red beans, whipped cream, warabimochi, and fruit, among others. The playful look of the parfait with the small Japanese parasol makes this a very cute dessert.

This café just opened by the street up to Kiyomizu Temple and their matcha sweets, which use matcha by the established tea shop “Ippodo,” have been getting more and more popular lately. Their marbled matcha cheesecake is a popular item on their menu, but we also want to recommend their roasted soy bean flour ice cream parfait topped with a big chestnut. The cute bowl resembling a rice bowl is also a very nice touch.

Bel Amer Kyoto Bettei

Bel Amer Kyoto Bettei is mainly known as a chocolate shop. There is a café on the second floor of the shop, and here you can enjoy chocolate sweets. They have three types of parfaits, but the classic one is their “Chocolate berry parfait” with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, berries, macarons, terrine au chocolat, and others. This being a chocolate specialty shop, their chocolate ice cream is rich and delicious.

Kisshokaryo

Kisshokaryo has their main café in Gion, and it is a café specializing in roasted soy bean flour. Their most popular item is this roasted barley and soy bean parfait, with a cookie-like crunchy top layer and merengue below it and the combination of these two, is a fun one. Also, the layers of this parfait are very pretty, which is why you can often see this one come up on social media too. They also have roasted soy bean on the tables which you can put on your sweets for free! This is a really fun café.
