Story & Recommendation
A sophisticated Pontocho bar where you can enjoy summertime cocktails on a riverside terrace
BAR Atlantis is located just off the Shijo-dori side of Pontocho, around a five-minute walk from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station and a three-minute walk from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station. BAR Atlantis is a shot bar made for spending those special moments in life. Every aspect of the bar is refined and has an air of luxury—from the interior to the atmosphere, the way the bartenders carry themselves, and the cocktails they serve. Although it’s by and large a quiet, low-key space, the bar doesn’t feel unapproachable, so you can relax and visit with friends or a significant other. The cover charge, of ¥1,000 per person, is a little on the expensive side, so we recommend taking your time and enjoying a variety of drinks, rather than heading home after just one. The riverside Yuka terrace, open from May through September, is also furnished with its own bar. This incredibly rare kind of riverside terrace, even for Kyoto, is one of the bar's most well-known aspects. If you’re visiting from May to September, definitely grab a drink over the Kamo River and listen to the murmuring of the river.

Mojito
Mojito / ¥900
Mojito, the most popular cocktail at BAR Atlantis. This refreshing drink, with a rum base and plenty of fresh mint, is perfect for a summer night on the riverside terrace. Enjoy this cocktail as your first drink, should you get the opportunity to visit the bar's riverside terrace.

Atlantis
Atlantis / ¥900
Atlantis, an original cocktail bearing the bar's name. We recommend this very easy-to-drink cocktail—with a gin base finished with cranberry and grapefruit—to the ladies in particular. Enjoy the sweetness of the refreshing fruits.

Pontocho Cooler
Pontocho Cooler / ¥900 ~
Pontocho Cooler, a cocktail bearing the name of the area where the bar is located, Pontocho. The clear, light green color comes from the use of French liqueur, Cointreau, and powdered green tea. The drink's flavor has both sweetness and cooling notes, well suited to the hot Kyoto summer.

Similar to the cocktail options, the food options are also wide and varied. The bar has a food menu with over 20 choices, from classic items suited to cocktails, such as mixed nuts, an assortment of cheeses, and dried fruits, to pastas and Fish-and-Chips for those who are hungry.
How to Order
The bar stocks over 500 different spirits, so there are many drinks not on the menu. Rather than ordering from the menu, it's better to talk to the bartender to find a drink you like.
- Order Tips -
The bar has an English menu, but the bartenders also speak simple English, so you can communicate your preferences when ordering.
