Try warabi-mochi and amazake in a space that recreates a traditional Japanese cafe
This amami-dokoro or traditional Japanese café is situated roadside with a view of Yasaka Pagoda. The gate in front of the shop is impressive. When you come through the gate, you’ll find a pretty little garden. Inside the shop are tons of Japanese dolls and other very Japanese-style decorations crowded around, making for a really fun atmosphere. This space recreates what an old-style Japanese café might have looked like. Everything is handmade at the shop with carefully selected quality ingredients— you should be sure to try the warabi-mochi and the amazake.

When you think of Kyoto, you think of warabimochi. And when it comes to warabimochi, Bunnosuke Chaya is the place to go! We have been making the finest sweet treats in Kyoto for more than 100 years. In addition to warabimochi and anmitsu, you can also enjoy shaved ice in summer, and dango dumplings in winter.

Amazingly tender, melts in the mouth. Kinako (roasted soy flour) is savory and sweet at the same time. Be careful when eating because the kinako dusting has a tendency to scatter onto clothing and other surfaces.

Amazake

The shop has been making this drink with the same techniques since its founding. The ingredients include only sweeteners that are really good for you, like rice and malt sugars.
The mellow sweetness and the mouth-feel of the rice are just right. There is no alcohol in this drink so children can certainly enjoy it too.

Shiratama Anmitsu

This dish has tons of adzuki beans that have just the right amount of sweetness. Not too sweet and just the right-sized portion, so you will be able to finish the whole dish without feeling like it’s too much.

If you enjoy drinks made with rice then you should order Amazake.
Add one sweet food item to your order and that should be plenty.
