Story & Recommendation
Wagyu steak, everyone’s number 1
Located to the south of the Imperial Palace, Hafuu offers top quality beef and a lively atmosphere. As they were originally a butcher for a long time, they are able to stock the finest beef at reasonable prices. There are a wide range of beef dishes, like steak, beef cutlet and more. If you visit at lunch time, all dishes include salad, miso soup, pickles and coffee. It will definitely leave you satisfied. The interior of the restaurant is a mixture of modern and traditional Japanese. The staff also provide quality service, which makes you feel at home. Try and get a seat at the counter table, so you can see meal being cooked right there on the counter in front of you. They also have take-out lunch boxes, which are more reasonably priced and are available to those not dinning in as well. Kyoto’s famous Kamogawa River is also close by, so we definitely recommend grabbing a seat by the river to eat one of these delicious Wagyu lunch boxes.
Wagyu sirloin steak (Japanese beef) / ￥4,700(tax-included)
The thick, juicy steak is gorgeous and melts in your mouth. The fat on the beef is very light and won’t make you feel sick after eating it. It comes with rice, salad, miso soup and more. For each cut of beef, you will most likely eat a lot of rice. Dip in some salt or a bit of mustard to get the best flavour. Filet steak is also served for ￥4,800
Steak bowl / ￥2,900(tax-included)
A mountain of sliced beef sitting atop a bowl of rice. The beef itself has a wonderful, strong flavor, but we highly recommend you eat it in the Japanese-style, with chopped Japanese leak and Wasabi horse radish. Add soy sauce to enjoy even more flavors.
Beef cutlet sandwich / ￥￥2,000(tax-included)
The thick beef culet is more impactful and outstanding than you’d expect! Not only are the special sauce and cabbage amazing at making the beef taste even better, but the bread itself is fantastic too. Getting an extra one or two to take-out to have for dinner at your hotel is a great option too, as you’ll probably want to keep eating them again and again, even after having them for lunch.
