Story & Recommendation
Mild Chinese dining uniquely nurtured in Kyoto
It is known that Kyoto has developed its own Chinese cuisines. They have light taste similar to Japanese dishes, using dashi (Japanese soup stock made from fish and kelp). Hosen has been following the tradition of these Kyoto style Chinese restaurants and serves very mild and gentle Chinese cuisines, using ingredients grown in the Kyoto area. Once you step inside the restaurant, you will be welcomed by the modern interior and jazz music aired, which match well with mild and soft taste of the dishes. A number of local people continue to visit the restaurant to appreciate their taste that remains unchanged since its opening. A perfect place to enjoy a meal while relaxing in the center of the city.

Shyumai (steamed Chinese pork dumpling ) / ¥550
One of the most popular dishes in the restaurant and almost a majority of people will order this Chinese dumpling. What makes the dumpling so special is the crunchy texture of chopped arrowheads mixed in meat. It crisps nicely in your mouth and addicts both old fans and newcomers. A flour dough coat is softer compared to ordinary ones and makes a good-match with juicy minced meet.

Harumaki(Chinese spring roll) / ¥990
This spring roll is exceptionally filled with bamboo shoots, which is a local delicacy in Kyoto. A flour dough coat wrapping the bamboo shoots and other vegetable ingredients is deep-fried twice, in order not to lose crispy feelings. On the other hand, the taste is not oily at all, but quite light. So you cannot stop shoving them into your mouth! Dip them onto soy sauce, vinegar and mustard to your individual taste.

The noodle is the restaurant’s special dish and also called karashisoba (mustard noodle). The noodle has a sticky feeling and is dressed in thick source with mustard seasoning and its delicate smell of stimulate your appetite so much! On the contrary, the taste of mustard is rather mild and matches well with sticky-feeling noodle. Lettuce in the noodle is very crispy and adds an accent to the dish.
4Let's Try!
Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes / ¥1,100
Be careful when you eat these baked potatoes at a mouthful! The outer side of potatoes is made very hard with sweet caramel source and keeps in the heat of cooked potatoes inside, which are soft and very hot. An amazing contrast of its hardness and softness makes you throw a piece into your mouth one by one, even after your main dishes. An ideal desert to finish up your meal.
