You can find the popular Standing BAR Kyasa in a multi-tenant building in Kiyamachi, just a ten-minute walk from Hankyu Kawaramachi Station. This small but popular hole in the wall holds only 15 people, and it’s always packed with regular and foreign customers. The secret to its success? The wall behind the bar, which displays the owner’s carefully selected range of Japanese sake and shochu that can be served for only ¥300 and up. An immense variety of brands awaits you, from staples to rare finds. The owner is particularly proud of his shochu selection. Small numbered stickers adorn every bottle, and a “3” means that you can order one cup for ¥300. The cash-only ordering and payment system is particularly accessible to foreigners. Just put some money in the bowl in front of you, and when you order, the bartender will take the amount they need from the bowl. When your bowl gets empty, simply top it up and order away. Standing bar Kyasa is the perfect place to enjoy your evening without worrying about language barriers or prices. For a snack, you can get the bar’s famous “¥100 side dishes” of Japanese sweets, canned foods, and more. Around ¥1000 will get you all you need. The bartender and his customers always have a friendly atmosphere, so women traveling alone can feel comfortable here too. Standing BAR Kyasa doesn’t charge for entry, so please walk right in and have a good time.
Shochu / ¥300 ~
Shochu is a kind of Japanese alcohol that can be made from a range of distilled ingredients, including wheat, potatoes, rice, or buckwheat. You can’t visit Japan without trying shochu at least once, and at this bar, you can get a glass for ¥300. Sake / ¥400 ~
You can also try Japan’s most famous sake brands at Standing BAR Kyasa, with one glass starting at ¥400. Sake is usually drunk straight, but it can famously be enjoyed at any temperature. Drinks are not the only thing that’s cheap at Standing BAR Kyasa: every small bowl of snacks on this tray is ¥100. You can get a variety of daily specials with your drink—including rolled omelets, boiled fish or vegetables, kimchi, potato salad, and many more. Choosing the perfect little snack to complement your drink is a pleasure in itself.
How to Order

There is no menu at Standing BAR Kyasa. Just look at the bottles lined up behind the counter and order what you want. The small stickers on every bottle indicate the price, so you can decide based on that. Some wines and beers are not displayed behind the counter, so feel free to ask the staff if you want anything you don’t see.

You’ll pay in cash every time you order. When you enter the bar, the staff will place a bowl in front of you. Put money in the bowl and every time you order, the staff will take the amount needed for your drink. You can top up the bowl when the money runs low.

Standing BAR Kyasa is a popular bar in Kiyamachi where you can get shochu and sake for a reasonable price. This place boasts some of the lowest prices of the Kiyamachi area, and it’s easy to accidentally drink too much because everything is so cheap. But the prices aren’t the only good thing about this bar. Because the space is so small, there’s not much distance between you and other customers, and you’ll often see all the patrons chatting like old friends. As people from many countries visit Standing BAR Kyasa, you’ll have an experience that you couldn’t replicate anywhere else.
