Story & Recommendation
Enjoy the four seasons of Japan and the nature of Kyoto at Nanzenji Junsei with some piping hot tofu
One of the most famous foods of Kyoto is “yudofu.” There are many restaurants in Kyoto where you can enjoy yudofu, but Nanzenji Junsei, located right in front of Nanzen-ji Temple, is one of the best. The teste of the boiled tofu, or yudofu, here is an especially rich one, as they use tofu (made from Japanese soybeans) that is only used for yudofu. The dish itself was born right here in front of Nanzen-ji Temple, as a food item served at the many teahouses here. Nazenji Junsei’s yudofu sauce makes the taste of the tofu stand out even more. They have two courses for you to choose from if you just want to enjoy yudofu, Flower, and Moon. If you want to also try Kyoto’s world-renowned kaiseki cuisine, you can order a course with seasonal kaiseki dishes in it. You can also order a yudofu-making set, in which you get to make yudofu from soymilk, or, if you want, you can try making yuba (tofu skin) too. Nanzenji Junsei is a restaurant where you can enjoy a great view of their Japanese garden, which will look different every season, while you enjoy your hot tofu. This restaurant is sure to be a luxurious experience, so remember to make a reservation for it when you come to see Nanzen-ji Temple.
