Enjoy painstakingly prepared Japanese cuisine by master chefs in a wonderfully Japanese environment
Pontocho, located in the bustling and very atmospherically Japanese downtown district of Kawaramachi in Kyoto, is a popular spot among tourists. Located here in the Pontocho area is the Japanese restaurant Pontocho Robin, housed in a 150 year old renovated town house. At the end of an alleyway on a stone paved street lit by streetlamps, is the entrance, beyond which is a wooden building and a small garden, with a large window facing the Kamogawa River. This restaurant is filled with the emblematic Japanese atmosphere of Kyoto.
The chefs use seasonal ingredients, and diners enjoy painstakingly prepared cuisine and Kyoto-brewed sake. Highly recommended are the multicourse meals, filled with umami and the charm of Japanese cuisine, including fresh seafood dishes such as sashimi and grilled fish, and assortments of beautifully colorful small dishes.
A la carte items include meat dishes prepared with Japanese beef.
Between May and September, diners can take part in the Kyoto summer tradition of Yuka seating (outdoor floor seating along the Kamo River), relaxing in the comfortable breeze while enjoying their meal. This restaurant provides an atmosphere worthy of the city of Kyoto, with genuine Japanese cuisine. Diners in search of such a place should definitely check out Pontocho Robin.
