Story & Recommendation
An unforgettable sushi experience at a Michelin rated restaurant in Gion
A sophisticated sushi experience you will never forget! This Michelin rated sushi restaurant is located in Gion district of Kyoto. The sushi is served as “omakase” style which means that you will be served the freshest fish in season. Edo-mae sushi, originally from Tokyo, are prepared by a chef who has developed his skills in the Kanto region. While sushi rice is commonly mixed with sugar and vinegar, at Sushi Matsumoto, no sugar is used. Red vinegar is used instead creating impactful flavors. The sushi made by this chef is soft and fluffy in texture reflecting his friendly personality. This young chef opened the restaurant in historical district of Gion only about ten years ago, yet it is now a successful restaurant. Be prepared to be surprised with a marvelously delicious meal.

Omakase style is often common in sushi restaurants where it is up to the chef to carefully plan your whole meal. Often in sushi restaurants, the light tasting sushi is first served and preceded with heavier sushi. Enjoy the parade of sushi cautiously created one by one by the very talented chef.
