Story & Recommendation
High quality tempura experience produced by Tawaraya
This is a tempura dining one should experience while in Japan. The chef will prepare the tempura right in front of you. Listen to the sizzling sound of shrimp, Shiitake mushrooms, and fish amongst other delicious and fresh ingredients being ready to be devoured.
Living outside of Japan, it is difficult to come by high-end tempura restaurants. The way they do tempura in Tenyu is the way tempura is supposed to be served. Light and crispy non-greasy tempura served right after it is taken out of the hot oil. On the side are condiments that can be used according to taste such as “Tentsuyu,” or dipping sauce for tempura, grated Daikon radish, lemon, salt, and Sansho peppers.
Serving multiple guests at a time, the chef is in sync with his cooking and the customers’ pace of eating. It is a skill like no other, the chef preforms with elegance. Tenyu is produced by Tawaraya ryokan, one of the finest ryokans in Kyoto.
