While it goes without saying that you can fully indulge yourself in the great taste of wagyu, you can also try cuisine and yakiniku barbecue featuring a variety of different cuts of the wagyu beef. The reason this is possible is that the restaurant stocks the wagyu it serves by purchasing entire cows. Consequently, guests can enjoy the great taste of wagyu featuring fresh, rare parts that you just cannot get a taste of at other restaurants. Visitors also grill the meats on their own using the smokeless roasters equipped on the table. Although at other yakiniku restaurants, the smell of the smoke while grilling the meat often ends up sticking to your clothing, at Kyoto Yakiniku HIRO Kiyamachi, there is no cause for concern since the roasters do not put off any smoke. The restaurant has been renovated from what used to be a ryokan travel lodge, and the atmosphere radiates a sense of traditional Japan in addition to being clean. From the windows, guests have a view of the Kamo River which flows right next to the restaurant. Every year from May to September, people flock to enjoy yakiniku on the noryo yuka (a seating area built from a wooden platform above the Kamo River), a seasonal summer tradition in Kyoto.

The wagyu cuts of the day are served up as a platter, letting you enjoy a range of tastes of wagyu beef — ranging from popular cuts to cuts that are a little more out of the ordinary — all on a single plate. Cut up this big piece of meat served in a pot into bite size pieces using scissors, then grill it. There is a special tare sauce made from Japanese radish and vinegar in the pot, and the flavor of the sauce pervades the meat, making it a dish with a refreshing taste that also lets you enjoy the flavor of wagyu.

This is a dish featuring raw wagyu meat. Yukke is a dish made from finely chopped raw meat. The seasoning makes use of a salty-sweet tare sauce, and adding a raw egg on it gives it an overall mellow taste. Raw meat is a little chewy, and you can enjoy its flavor by just barely biting into it. * The raw meat uses fresh wagyu meat that has cleared legal standards and is prepared by cooks. * Generally, raw meat poses the risk of food poisoning. Children and elderly guests, along with others who have a lessened capacity to combat food poisoning, should refrain from eating raw meat.

Meat Sushi Three-Item Platter / ¥980
Kyoto Yakiniku HIRO Kiyamachi’s original sushi featuring wagyu. The ingredients are yukke, lean red meat, and roasted karubi (short ribs) (the cuts used depend on the day.) Although the sushi does have some seasoning, the meat is relatively free from tinkering, letting you enjoy its natural taste. The size of the sushi is easy to eat even for women. I suggest eating it in one bite.

If you are excited about eating great-tasting wagyu and yakiniku, I suggest you check out Kyoto Yakiniku HIRO Kiyamachi first. They use safe, high-grade wagyu, and the restaurant will definitely leave meat-lovers feeling satisfied. Personally, I would strongly suggest trying the horumon-yaki (broiled organs) featuring the internal organs of wagyu cows. Kyoto Yakiniku HIRO Kiyamachi also has a selection of a la carte items that make for good snacks to go with alcohol as well as sushi featuring wagyu. Since it is located close to a busy downtown area, it is an ideal restaurant for dinner after sightseeing.
