Notice the black burger buns! Arashiyama hamburger!
CROSS Burger Beer/Coffee is a hamburger restaurant a little bit removed from the busiest sightseeing areas of Arashiyama. Here you can eat a burger with completely black buns (colored with bamboo charcoal) that reminds one of the Bamboo Grove of Arashyiama. Each ingredient is carefully made at the restaurant, from their 100% black wagyu beef to their BBQ sauce. For their lunch set, you get a salad, French fries, and a drink. It’s nice that you can also choose the drink from the alcoholic drinks like beer and not only soft drinks! The burger is served to you on a chic two-tier curate stand (like afternoon tea). Even though this restaurant is in the popular sightseeing area of Arashiyama, it feels very quiet and tranquil, so it’s a nice spot to have a little break from all the sightseeing. Also, this restaurant is highly recommended for those who want to eat delicious burgers made from 100% Japanese black wagyu beef!
Double cheeseburger / ￥1,680
When you order the double cheeseburger, you first get the burger, and then the staff brings you the cheddar cheese on a hotplate and pours so much of it onto the burger that it’ll just overflow with cheese. Because they pour the sizzling cheese onto the burger right in front of you, the nice smell makes your appetite go crazy. After pouring the cheese, you get to bite into the double cheeseburger, that is so juicy you’ll love every bite. The handmade BBQ sauce is a bit sweet and goes really well with the patties and the cheddar cheese, and it’s so good that once you eat it, you’ll surely get addicted.
Vegetable burger / ￥1,780
This burger doesn’t use meat, but carrots, pea sprouts, tomato, lettuce, and many other vegetables, so it has a nice bite to it. Each ingredient in this burger is made at this restaurant, including the sauce. The patty is made from “Saga tofu,” a famous type of tofu from Arashiyama. It’s also notice-worthy that this burger also uses the famous Kyoto-pickle, senmaizuke, in it. However the senmaizuke is not made with turnip-like usual, but with daikon radish, and the crunchy texture of it is a nice accent to the taste. As the burger doesn’t contain any meat, it’s great for vegetarians.
BLT burger / ￥1,580
This burger contains bacon, lettuce, onion, and a patty made of 100% Japanese black wagyu beef. Like the double cheeseburger, this burger also uses their original BBQ sauce, and it goes incredibly well with the juicy patty. The bacon slice that is so big it protrudes from the burger is fried until it’s crunchy and fragrant. Eating the burgers at the restaurant is nice, but I also want to recommend buying them to go and having them while you look at the Togetsu-kyo Bridge and the great scenery of Arashiyama. The take-out burgers are put into a cute box with the restaurant’s logo on it. The walk from the restaurant to the Togetsu-kyo Bridge takes around five minutes.
Sake sour / ￥850
This cocktail uses junmai ginjo sake Karaku, which is brewed using rice from Kyoto and the great water of Fushimi. They have eight different flavors, lemon, orange, strawberry, grapefruit, kiwi fruit, grape, lime, and umeboshi (pickled plums). No matter which flavor you choose, you’re going to get a big cocktail glass full of fruit. The cocktails don’t only look nice, but also taste great and fruity, and the tastes go very well with Karaku. The taste is very refreshing and goes well with the burgers.
