Enjoying excellent cuisine in a modern, but at the same time classical atmosphere of the beautiful western-style building.・FORTUNE GARDEN KYOTO
Close to the subway station of Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae, next to Kyoto Hotel Okura, you will find a big, traditional western-style building, which used to be the head office of the famous Shimadzu Corporation. The building was designed by one of the most renowned modern Japanese architects, Goichi Takeda, and it was built in the year 1927. The building has a very high ceiling and harmonious lighting, and the whole building just feels very romantic. At Fortune Garden Kyoto they use seasonal ingredients to produce delightful masterpieces in which the taste of the ingredients gets to shine, all made by their artisanal chefs. Besides their French cuisine, they also offer quite an extensive drinks and sweets menu too. They also have a beer garden on the rooftop from May to September, where you get to gaze at the night view of Kyoto while you enjoy beer. Fortune Garden Kyoto is a restaurant which combines European and Japanese influences in a way that is sure to leave both your eyes and stomach satisfied!
Spicy Roasted Lamb with Seasonal Vegetables
Spicy Roasted Lamb with Seasonal Vegetables / ¥2,400 (Including tax)
The spicy roasted lamb is soft inside, and the pink meat is full of flavor. However, the taste of lamb is not too strong or gamey, but just right. When it is combined with seasonal vegetables, the dish feels even fresher. They use a Bon Bonheur pot which keeps the dish warm well.
Truffled Egg Cocottes
Truffled Egg Cocottes / ¥1,300 (Including tax)
This dish is served on a cocotte, and the best part about it is that when you break the eggs on top, the egg yolks mix with the other ingredients, and make this dish taste heavenly. The French bread you get with it is also tasty; and when eaten topped with the truffled eggs, it turns into something incredibly delicious.
Truffled French Fries

Truffled French Fries / ¥800 (Including tax)
French fries are something you often see in pubs, but the French fries here are a bit different. The thinly cut fries are actually served to you topped with truffle powder, making them taste especially good! They’re not too oily, but make a great companion to some red wine.
Broccoli & Avocado Salad
4Let's Try!
Broccoli & Avocado Salad / ¥1,200 (Including tax)
Avocados, which are also known as alligator pears, have a creamy but delicate taste. But when you add broccoli and sudachi-lime to it, you get a not only healthy salad but also a delicious one. The sudachi-lime makes the salad very refreshing with its sourness, and it’s easy to see why this salad is a hit among women!

After tasting all kinds of delicious dishes, it’s time to have some desserts. The Basque cheesecake we had was soft as pudding in the middle, but the outside of it was crispy, and I got addicted to the taste from the first bite. You have to try it!

*Only available for dinner.

The classic European style of the building the restaurant is located in really stands out from those around it. I felt so romantic eating truffled egg cocottes with red wine! This restaurant is great for lovers, but also for a girls’ night out. But I also want to recommend their beer garden if you’re in Kyoto in summer!

This restaurant is spacious, and because of this, it feels very relaxed, although it's also a bit on the fancier side of things. The ceiling is very high; also something you don't often see in Kyoto! The food here is of quality befitting the excellent surroundings, and they also have a nice drinks menu. Their drinks are also surprisingly cheap, for example, you can get a bottle of red for only 3,000 yen!
