Kyo-ryori Kodaiji Hashiba

- 京料理 高台寺 羽柴 -
Gaze at Yasaka Tower as you enjoy exquisite Kyoto-treats at Kyo-ryori Kodaiji Hashiba
Enjoy all kinds of yuba (tofu skin) dishes, all made using the best Japanese soybeans, at Kyo-ryori Kodaiji Hashiba, located close to Kodai-ji Temple in Nene’s Path. All their yuba is made daily at their own factory. But you can’t make nice Kyoto cuisine without the famous vegetables of Kyoto, known as Kyo-yasai. At Hashiba, they make sure that they can serve you the freshest vegetables by buying their vegetables directly from the farmers. They serve their food as set meals containing tempura, side dishes, rice, and others, at reasonable prices; very satisfying! Sit down at the restaurant and look out of the window: you’ll see Yasaka Tower and the beautiful, historic townscape of Kyoto unfolding before your eyes; this is sure to make the food taste even better! If you’re going to Gion or to Kodai-ji Temple, be sure to pay Kyo-ryori Kodaiji Hashiba a visit!
Kyo-yuba-zen / ¥2,160 (Tax included)
Their most popular meal is set is the Kyo-yuba-zen, a meal with three kinds of yuba appetizers, tempura, dengaku, white miso soup, yuba-rice, yuba gratin… you get so many yuba treats, so satisfying! This is a great Kyoto-style meal set; as expected of the most popular one at Hashiba!
Limited special, shrimp tempura bowl
Limited special, shrimp tempura bowl / ¥1,620 (Tax included)
This is their limited special, shrimp tempura bowl, which is a rice box brimming with fresh shrimp and Kyo-yasai vegetables, and it’s not at all too greasy. The tempura pieces are dipped in their special sauce, then put on a bed of rice, and it’s such a nice sight you’re bound to start drooling. Enjoy these deep-fried treats with yuba with wasabi and Kyoto’s specialty, white miso soup.
Yudofu (Only)
3Let's Try!
Yudofu (Only) / ¥648 (Tax included)
Yudofu is one of the most famous foods in Kyoto, the rich taste and nice texture of the tofu making it a true delicacy. This dish is only served together with a set meal, so you cannot order it by itself. The taste is refreshing and it has a nice balance to it. *In summer the tofu is served cold.

While you eat, you can also enjoy the great view. You get to see the traditional buildings of Kyoto and the streets; I’m sure this will make your food taste even better! If you like yuba, you can also buy some to take home with you. But note that yuba has to be kept refrigerated and that it has a rather short best-before-date, so it’s better to enjoy the yuba you buy in Japan.

As they use yuba made in their own factory, you get to taste yuba at its freshest! I especially liked their Kyo-yuba-zen set meal, and in it, the three yuba appetizers left the most lasting impression on me. I like the sesame-soy sauce-yuba one, its taste of soybeans and fragrant sesame was so good I bought a box to take home with me (note that yuba needs to be refrigerated and has a rather short best-before date)! If you want to enjoy the cuisine of Kyoto, this restaurant should be your choice!
