Amazingly delicious and reasonable neo-bistro along Kamogawa River
Ikariya Shokudo is located along the Kamogawa River–one of the top sightseeing spots in Kyoto for sightseeing. The building itself is a renovated 100-year old townhouse and matches the scenery well. Their Kawayuka, outdoor riverside terrace, is loved by many locals and tourists during the summer. At Ikariya Shokudo, you can enjoy deliciously appetizing dishes made from fresh seasonal ingredients. They also have a large collection of wine selected from all over the world too. You’ll be amazed by how well the food and wine recommended by the sommelier go together. Most remarkably, the exquisitely divine wine is affordable too.
This bistro is one of the hardest restaurants to get reservations at in Kyoto and a lot of people compete to get in. However, it’s worth it. Friendly and helpful staff, nice cozy atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks at a reasonable price; sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
Confit of chicken

The chicken is slowly poached at a low temperature and is incredibly tender and juicy. Enjoy a melt-in-the mouth texture with a crispy skin.
Savory cheese soufflé
The Savory Cheese Soufflé is a favorite at Ikariya Shokudo. The fluffy soufflé made from white sauce has rich flavors of egg and cheese. The Nanbu Tekki (ironware) cocotte keeps the soufflé oven baked fresh. You’re sure get hooked on this soft, flavorsome, and fresh soufflé.
Charcoal-grilled beef steak
This Wagyu, Japanese beef, sirloin tip is charcoal grilled, which gives the beef a rich flavor. You can enjoy the natural flavors of Japanese beef with the salsa verda sauce.
