Izumi Curry introduces the flavorful and fruity curry of Osaka to the people of Kyoto
Izumi Curry is a chain of curry restaurants hailing from Osaka, and now they have a restaurant in Kyoto too, close to Hankyu Karasuma and subway Shijo stations, right on the main street of Kyoto, Shijo Street. They’re not only famous for their curry sauce, but also the choice you have in toppings: you can decide to top your curry with cheese or a Hamburg steak, but for the more adventurous they have Kyoto-vegetables and gold leaf topped curries too.
Curry with a Hamburg steak
/ ￥1,550 (for the super-mega)
This is the classic choice at Izumi Curry. In the picture, you can see the super mega version which comes at the respectable size of 1kg with the rice, sauce, and Hamburg steaks put together. But if you feel like you can’t eat 1kg of curry, you can get the normal mega version of this or even the normal version. You can even get the curry with no toppings at all. The curry in the picture was added with double-cheese as the extra topping.
Curry with spicy pork flakes and cheese
This tasty plate of curry comes with the great combination of spicy pork flakes and cheese. You have the spiciness of the curry and the flakes, but the cheese makes the taste a little bit milder. All in all a great choice for those not hungry enough to go for the super-mega Hamburg steak curry.
Gold leaf curry (Only in Kyoto)
When in Kyoto, you have to try edible gold leaf. This is the plate of curry that goes straight to Instagram. And something you definitely won’t find elsewhere. The gold leaf itself doesn’t taste like anything, but the curry at Izumi Curry has just the right amount of spiciness and a rich, fruity aftertaste so this should leave you satisfied.
A cup of coffee
After eating a plate of curry, what better way to relax than with a cup of coffee? And at Izumi Curry they use an Italian coffee maker to make theirs, so you’re guaranteed a nice cup of the hot black liquid.
