Story & Recommendation
Latte Art Junkies – a coffee shop seeking the best from every cup
Sitting five minutes’ away from the Raiden Kitano-Hakubaichō Station, Latte Art Junkies Roasting Shop 2nd is all about “From Seed to Cup.” Looking to bring the best out of every cup, this specialty coffee stand is meticulous at every step of the process; whether it be selecting the beans, roasting them, or extracting the coffee.

Owner Onishi boasts an impressive history at latte art competitions both at home and abroad. With a great belief in himself, Onishi let us know that he only serves that which he can personally say with confidence is delicious. In order to always be able to serve freshly roasted coffee, Onishi utilizes Latte Art Junkies’ Kuramaguchi store as a roastery to roast beans twice a week.
Latte Art Junkies also pay attention to the water being used as well. Water that's been once passed through the instore filter is the only water used. For their pour-over coffee, they even go as far as to make sure only to use 92 ° C non-boiling water. Because of this, the coffee contains a higher sugar content and gives off a sharp after taste.
Aside from the coffee, another draw of this café is their vibrant interior. The café was apparently designed with the image of being somewhere you could see on a New York street. You can see this reflected in the unique artistic vibe the café gives off with its colorful cups, section of glass floor, and logo plastered walls.

If you’re looking for a New York-style café that serves up delicious coffee kept scrupulously fresh, then definitely check out Latte Art Junkies Roasting Shop 2nd

Today’s Coffee
Today’s Coffee / ¥450 (inc. tax)
Latte Art Junkies stocks around six varieties of coffee beans, and with Today’s Coffee, you can pick and enjoy whichever one you like. Thanks to thorough quality control implemented from the production level up, each variety of bean is of guaranteed high quality. The Junkies Blend, which takes from the café’s name, is a blend of beans from Brazil, El Salvador, and Honduras. The blend itself is sweet with light notes of hazelnut. Together with a definite sweetness, the first sip of the coffee will bring the flavors of the coffee beans themselves as well. Also, although quite rich, the coffee also has a markedly sharp after taste too.

Hot Latte
Hot Latte / ¥500 (inc. tax)
As is suggested in the name, lattes are a staple of Latte Art Junkies. With hearts and swans beautifully poured into the crema, this latte gives something for both the eyes and the mouth to enjoy. Latte Art Junkies’ latte uses three times the beans of that typically used in lattes in Japan, giving you, needless to say, a solidly strong espresso. However, although the espresso may be strong, the beans are explicitly roasted with lattes in mind, which helps remove any semblance of awful, overly bitter flavors. Some things, such as this, only come with the freedom of being the roaster and the barista. On top of everything else, the milk used is also the result of much trial and error. Milk that would not be overpowered by the sweetness of the espresso was purposefully chosen, giving both the beautiful flavors of espresso and milk the chance to stand out independently.

Prawn and Avacado Toasted Sandwich
Prawn and Avacado Toasted Sandwich / ¥660 (inc. tax)
This toasted sandwich contains tender prawn, creamy avocado, and cheese. Pressed on a hot plate, the sandwich bread gets nicely toasted and smells absolutely mouth-watering. The combination of the light flavors of the prawn and vegetables together with the saltiness of the cheese and delicious smelling bread makes this a fantastically well-rounded sandwich. Latte Art Junkies’ dedication to quality doesn’t just extend to their coffee; they also meticulously selected the perfect ingredients for their food as well. The bread is apparently all specially ordered from a trusted bakery and was chosen after searching for the ideal bread which gave off robust flavors of wheat. The vegetables used are also all organic, pesticide-free, and humanely farmed. Other toasted sandwich options include bacon and cheese, and bacon and vegetables.
4Let's Try!
Junkies Cookie
Junkies Cookie / ¥400 (inc. tax)
Made with hazelnuts, white chocolate, and coffee beans to top it all off, Junkies Cookies are cookies of all textures and flavors. The soft cookie dough tends to crumble and fall apart in your mouth, while the nuts and coffee beans let you simultaneously enjoy a nice and crunchy, hard texture as well. Best enjoyed with a freshly poured coffee.
