Located near Kyoto city hall and next to the Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto, Bar K6 is a well known veteran of the Kyoto bar scene.
Upon ascending the stairs and heading inside, you’ll find a bar wrapped in a mature atmosphere backlight with a faint orange glow.
Founded in 1993, Bar K6 doesn’t have the longest history; however, it’s become such a popular, prominent, and staple of the Kyoto bar scene that when asked about bars in the city, locals will be likey to throw out the name before anything else. With so many Kyoto bartenders finding their start at K6, the bar has also come to be called the “training ground for bartender.”
With over 2,000 types of alcohol on offer, including rare single malts and aged whiskeys, you can enjoy a genuinely huge range of drinks.
However, the bar’s staple cocktail is the humble old gin and tonic. The reason being that it’s said one’s ability to make a truly good gin and tonic is a marker of a good bartender.

The gin and tonic is K6’s signature tall drink. Gin and tonics are generally characterized by their refreshing yet dry flavors brought about by the mild astringency of the alcohol, sweetness of the tonic and acidity of the lime. The refreshing combination of all these factors make gin and tonics one of the best drinks to start your night with.
K6 use soda water in their gin and tonics, a recipe that hasn’t changed for 25 years, and have managed to find a beautiful balance between each ingredient.
Additionally, at K6, if a hopeful bartender can’t past the gin and tonic test, they won’t be able to serve customers any drinks.

The seasonal cocktail is just that, a cocktail that uses fresh fruits that change every season. The picture above is of a grape cocktail we enjoyed on our visit to Bar K6 in August 2019.
This refreshing cocktail is made with the elegantly sweet juice of freshly squeezed grapes in combination with white wine. The refreshing sweetness and brilliant colors left quite the impression on us.

KAVALAN is a World Whiskies Award gold medalist and has rocketed their homeland of Taiwan into the ranks of the world’s top whiskey producing countries.
Pictured above is Solist, KAVALAN’s highest grade whiskey. Solist has a characteristic aroma of roasted almonds, which are undertoned by apparent notes of vanilla and oak.
The flavors are rich and creamy while managing to strike a fantastic balance with the smooth sweetness of the drink.

With the combination of both rich and creamy, and pungent and intense cheese, of both soft and hard textures, this cheese platters give you a bit of everything.

・CORNES DU DIABLE
This is a fluffy and lightly sweet cheese with a slight astringency from it being a goat’s cheese.
・Époisses de Bourgogne
This cheese is pungent with a particularly rich, creamy and smooth inside.
The rich and refreshing astringency of this cheese gives it flavors reminiscent of cheesecake.
Thanks to the long aging process of this cheese, it gives off incredibly savory and aromatic flavors. This cheese is full-bodied and packed with umami.
