Story & Recommendation
Reasonably priced handmade udon at Kendonya close to Fushimi Inari Shrine
The udon noodle restaurant Kendonya close to Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto makes their noodles by hand, every day: so their noodles are springier than many others and have a nice luster to them. The noodles here are cooked to the perfection: they’re boiled for just the right amount of time. Besides such classics as their kitsune udon, they also offer deep-fried pork cutlets, rice bowls, Japanese deep-fried chicken, and so many other great choices. Because the restaurant is conveniently located close to a major sightseeing spot, it should definitely be on your list of restaurants to hit in Kyoto. So when you go to Fushimi Inari Shrine, don’t only have inari sushi, remember to also have some udon noodles!

Pork Cutlet Set B
Pork Cutlet Set B / ¥1,030 (including tax)
The pork cutlet is crunchy but still soft inside, and it goes well with both noodles and rice. The springy noodles have a little touch of sesame to them, making them very fragrant. *You can have the noodles hot or cold.

C set
C set / ¥910 (including tax)
The C set comes with a mini rice bowl topped with deep-fried pork cutlet and egg; the rice is not at all hard but has sucked up the sauce of the egg and pork cutlet combination. You get to eat this delicious set with udon noodles which have an excellent texture. *You can have the noodles hot or cold.

Kitsune Udon
Kitsune Udon / ¥630 (including tax)
Kitsune udon is a classic noodle dish in Japan, and in it, you have a soup with a dashi base from kelp and dried bonito, and the most important ingredient of them all: the tofu skin. It may look very simple, but in its simplicity, it also hides a very deep taste.

- Order Tips -

Because this restaurant is very popular, you may have to line up, so we recommend going early or avoiding lunch and dinner time.
