Ultimate spice curry whose varied ingredients blend together in your mouth
Khaos Spice Diner is a popular restaurant in Osaka that opened in Kyoto in July 2017.
The chef of the restaurant, who is knowledgeable of Japanese cuisine, said to me, “All soups can be made into curry,” and the “spice curry” here is done by frying spices on high heat to make the taste stand out, and then Japanese dashi stock is added to make the curry taste unique.
They offer three types of curry, the main one being their “Khaos keema.” The other two curries change weekly based on what kind of an inspiration the chef gets that week. The three types of curries served on one plate look chaotic – but the taste of each of them stands out on its own.
The ceiling is high and a lot of light enters the spacious restaurant from the skylight. On the wall, they have rare books and artwork from foreign countries, and the restaurant feels like a chic café.
Khaos Spice Diner is located in a busy area of Kyoto popular among young people. There is also a movie theatre close by, so this is a great place for lunch either before or after you go see a blockbuster.
