Kiln is a restaurant from where you get to see the beautiful Takase River and enjoy food grilled on firewood
Kiln is located in the nightlife district of Kyoto, Kiyamachi, and the restaurant looks very trendy from outside, but inside the wooden interior makes the atmosphere feel warm and welcoming. Most of the dishes at the restaurant are grilled on firewood, improving the taste. The restaurant is most famous for its grilled vegetables and steaks. By grilling, the ingredients keep their fresh taste, and by putting some salt on them, the sweetness of the vegetables stands out more, and the taste of the meat gets even better. Because the dishes here are not greasy the restaurant is especially popular among women. They also have a nice selection of red and white wines for you to enjoy with your food.
Grilled seasonal vegetables and 3 flavored salts / ￥1,600 (+tax)
By using only the freshest, seasonal vegetables, the simple looking grilled vegetables become a delicacy. I recommend you first taste the vegetables as-is, and only after getting to know the true taste of the vegetable, dip it into the three flavored salts you have on the wooden plate.
Beef rump steak and French fries / 200g for ￥3,700 (+tax)
This steak is from cattle known as Taoshita from Hiroshima, and we had the rump cut. The steak was grilled medium rare for us, and the smell was incredible. The surface of the steak was surprisingly crisp, and the steak very soft, and easy to chew. The potatoes, on the other hand, were on the hard side, almost as hard as chips. The black pepper you get with this dish was a nice touch. If you’re hungry, you can upgrade the steak to a 300g one for 1,400 yen plus tax.
Grilled Caesar salad with smoked Tankai chicken / ￥1,500 (+tax)
First, the romaine lettuce is grilled well, indeed so well that some of it is burnt. Then it is topped with smoked Tankai chicken, a lot of cheese, and you have a Caesar salad that looks absolutely appetizing! After you add the yellow sauce you can see on the right side, and mix the ingredients, you have a great Caesar salad on your hands.
House red and white / ￥700 per glass (+tax)
They have a great selection of red and white wines to go with the food. If you don’t know what to order, get the house wine or ask the staff their recommendation. You can also order a bottle of wine too, if you’re feeling thirstier.
