Story & Recommendation
Pizzabar Komugi serves you freshly baked pizzas for 500 yen a pop in Kyoto
Pizzabar Komugi is located in the area of Karasuma Oike, a place where new restaurants come and go, and completion is hard. This new pizza bar opened its doors in December 2017, and it’s known for its cheap pizzas: they only cost 500 yen and are baked in a real pizza oven. The restaurant is always filled with the pleasant smell of pizzas being baked, and the bar counter of it is a great place to get to know new people. The pizzas here are also surprisingly large considering the price, and the choices you have in toppings and sauces mean you have an almost limitless amount of pizzas in your reach. They do both lunch and dinner, so if you are craving for a nice pizza, Pizzabar Komugi is a great place to try in Kyoto.

Margherita
Margherita / ¥500 (+tax)
This is the classic choice, and indeed the best-selling pizza at Pizzabar Komugi. The best way to judge a pizza place is to order a Margherita because this simple pizza is so simple that it takes skill to make it taste really good. On this front, Pizzabar Komugi makes a decent effort.

Basil mascarpone pizza
Basil mascarpone pizza / ¥500 (+tax)
This pizza is the clear favorite for the female clientele of this pizza bar. Mascarpone cheese is used for making tiramisu, but here you have it on pizza with basil sauce, and the sweet cheese just explodes with flavor when tasted together with the basil of the pizza. A new favorite for sure.

Today’s al ajillo
Today’s al ajillo / ¥980 (+tax) for the dish in the picture
At Pizzabar Komugi they have a menu on the table on a small blackboard with dishes that change daily. The day we went to Komugi we got this nice al ajillo-style dish with whitebait, and the taste was just as luxurious as the dish looks. The chef of the place is really skilled so be sure to try some of their daily specialties.
4Let's Try!
Caprese salad
Caprese salad / ¥580 (+tax)
Caprese salad is a much-loved Italian classic, so of course you can also get it at Pizzabar Komugi. The rich taste of the mozzarella cheese with the refreshing fresh tomatoes and the basil with the olive oil make this a great appetizer to start your dinner.
How to Order
