Mar Café is a cafe where you can enjoy nice food while you look down at Kiyomizu Temple
Mar Café is located on the top floor of an office building, so at first, it may be a bit intimidating to enter the café. But the view! You get to see the Kamo River, Kiyomizu Temple, and to have some great food while you look at these classic sightseeing spots. The restaurant is famous for their Mar Burger, which they only make 10 a day, but the burger looks so good that you’ll often run into it if you search for burgers in Kyoto on Instagram. Besides this, their desserts are worth a special mention, as they are all handmade and have a really deep, rich taste, and because of this are a favorite among women. They also have a nice selection of alcoholic drinks, so after having a cup of coffee or tea, you can also finish your afternoon tea or dinner with a nice cup of some red or white.

They only make 10 Mar Burgers a day, and these big burgers have one of the juiciest patties in Kyoto. After every bite, you get the full-on meaty flavor of the patty, but the bun and the sauce of the burger are also surprisingly flavorful for a Japanese burger, so as a whole, this burger is a must have for those looking for a nice burger in Japan. And you don’t only get fries with it, you also get tsukemono – Japanese pickles!

Enjoy the combination of smoked salmon, octopus rings, and shrimp, the tastes brought together by a nice oil-based salad dressing, and finished with ample amount of avocado. The taste of this salad is not that strong, and it makes for a nice appetizer. Not only does the salad look good, but it’s also a well-balanced, healthy dish for you to enjoy!

They have a different sweet for you to enjoy every day, and this is a chance you shouldn’t miss. In the picture, you can see a piece of cinnamon apple cake which wasn’t too sweet, but had just the right amount of cinnamon and whipped cream to make the apples shine. The cake had just the right amount of moistness to it, and especially with the whipped cream it tasted absolutely fabulous. They also have many other desserts too!

They have many alcoholic options too, some of them seasonal, like this chai tea with brandy, which worked wonders on a cold Kyoto-day. This is sure to make you feel warm even on some of the coldest days of the winter, and because it doesn’t contain that much alcohol, it’s also nice for those who don’t normally drink brandy!
