Enjoy a variety of fresh healthy vegetable dishes at mumokuteki café
Mumokuteki café is located in the bustling Teramachi shopping street of Kyoto. The first floor is full of interesting zakka (interesting miscellaneous things) and has a high ceiling. But on the second floor, there is a café where you can have guilt-free vegetarian dishes, which are not only healthy but also tasty. The ingredients are organic so you can be sure that your food is healthy. The restaurant offers Japanse-style fried chicken and fried pork cutlets, only they don’t contain any meat – instead, they’re made from tofu dregs and glutinous rice cakes. You also get rice or multigrain rice and a salad with your main dish. In addition, the café is so spacious it’s also great for the whole family to dine out together. If you want to have a healthy meal when traveling in Kyoto, come to mumokuteki café!
Imitation fried chicken
Imitation fried chicken / ¥1150 (+tax)
The deep-fried chicken becomes deep-fried tofu dregs and loses over half of its calories in the process. And the calorie level is only 1/8 of an average fried chicken. For people who are trying to manage their calorie intake, this is a delightful thing. You can select brown rice or multigrain rice to make this dish even healthier.
Avocado burger
Avocado burger / ¥1000 (+tax)
The shop's signature menu and very popular tofu burgers offer a refreshing overall taste. Its homemade bread, which practically melts in your mouth, is served with avocado. It gets full marks for its nutritional value too. Served with French fries and a salad, it is a very balanced meal.
Vegetarian soymilk ramen (imitation pork bone flavor)

Vegetarian soymilk ramen (imitation pork bone flavor) / Medium: ¥810 (+tax) Large:¥850 (+tax)
This tofu ramen is made without using any pork. However, it still has a pork bone flavor and even vegetarians can enjoy it with a peace of mind. Its thick soymilk soup and chewy noodles have none of the greasiness of regular ramen noodles. Even drinking the soup is no problem at all. In addition, if you feel that the size is not enough, you can order a combo package with a bowl of brown rice and some side vegetables. *With rice: Medium-size:¥950 (+tax) / Large-size:¥1,000 (+tax)
Soy Milk Sundae

Soy Milk Sundae / ¥900 (+tax)
This soft serve is made using soy milk, and it has a firm and dense texture, and normal sugar has been replaced with healthier beet sugar. The sundae is served with sticky rice balls, and in the bottom you have cornflakes and walnuts, adding to the texture and flavor.

If you want to enjoy more vegetables, you can upgrade to a set menu which includes the salad bar.

The picture above shows an example of the +300 yen option, with salad and a smoothie. The smoothie contains bok choy and pineapple, so it has both the healthiness of vegetables and the sweetness of fruit in it, making it the perfect, fatigue-crushing drink to have when you have after battling the crowds at Kiyomizu Temple.

People that are careful about their calorie-intake will definitely have their taste buds satisfied by the vegetable dishes here. The cafe also serves desserts that are made with beet sugar instead of white sugar. People can enjoy a guiltless afternoon tea. After a meal, you can also go grocery-shopping on the first floor!

This is a restaurant where you can enjoy plenty of healthy meals. Mumokuteki uses fresh vegetables to make a variety of dishes, and vegetarians can enjoy them with a peace of mind. I especially recommend the generously sized Japanese-style chicken nuggets that are made from okara (bean curds, also known as tofu dregs). In addition, groceries and clothing are sold on the first floor, so not only can you have lunch here but enjoy a shopping experience as well.
