Mumokuteki café is located in the bustling Teramachi shopping street of Kyoto. The first floor is full of interesting zakka (interesting miscellaneous things) and has a high ceiling. But on the second floor, there is a café where you can have guilt-free vegetarian dishes, which are not only healthy but also tasty. The ingredients are organic so you can be sure that your food is healthy. The restaurant offers Japanse-style fried chicken and fried pork cutlets, only they don’t contain any meat – instead, they’re made from tofu dregs and glutinous rice cakes.

mumokuteki’s Tofu Skin Omurice is a lunch menu only dish (11:30-15:00). As the name suggests, this tofu skin omelet has the texture of egg and goes brilliantly with the thick demi-glace sauce. The secret behind the sauce’s deep richness lines in the addition of corn and pumpkin as natural sweeteners. Tofu skin is made from soybeans making it naturally extremely healthy. This dish doesn’t sit heavy in your stomach after eating either, so is the perfect dish to enjoy before heading out to sightsee and walking a lot.
Dinner Set: Braised Hamburger Steak

mumokuteki’s dinner set comes with a plate of six side dishes, rice, miso soup and your choice of main. The available mains include “Okaraage” “Braised Hamburger Steak” and “Steamed Vegetables.” Pictured above is the Braised Hamburger Steak main, an entirely vegan hamburger patty made of tofu. The demi-glace sauce is even made entirely of vegetables, making this a great option of vegans. The light and fluffy texture of the tofu patty matches brilliantly with the demi-glace sauce.

Homemade Red Shiso Juice

One of the popular items at mumokuteki, the Homemade Red Shiso Juice. Although not overly sweet, you can still enjoy the pleasant aroma of the shiso.
