Story & Recommendation
Colorful clay pot soup curry with plenty of vegetables
Clay pot soup curry Ohmiya Seiuemon is a restaurant specializing in soup curry made with local ingredients that opened in August 2018 in Kyoto. The specialty of this restaurant is their curry that uses a mix of mellow bonito stock and strong, fragrant spices. You can top the curry with a meat of your choosing. The meat is all chosen carefully by the chef and it’s all locally produced. Each of the curries contains a lot of veggies so this restaurant is also popular among women. A lot of white and beige is used in the interior design of the restaurant, and a lot of natural light flows in from the big windows. You can go to this restaurant almost whenever you want to, as they’re open pretty much every day for both lunch and dinner. This restaurant is in busy central Kyoto, so I recommend you visit it when sightseeing in Kyoto.

We are a restaurant specializing in soup curry, produced by the oldest pickle shop in Kyoto. Please enjoy our soup curry made with Japanese-style soup stock and spices.

Kyo-aka jidori chicken drumstick soup curry / ¥1,380
Kyo-aka jidori chicken is a brand chicken from Kyoto that has a low amount of fat and chewy meat. It contains a lot of collagen so I recommend it to women. This classic menu item has a nice balance of umami and soup.

Soup curry with 100% locally produced pork Hamburg steak / ¥1,630
This soup curry may look weird at first: it combines bonito dashi stock and a Hamburg steak. As you eat it, the juices in the Hamburg steak will mix up with the curry, and these juices will then make the spices in it stand out even more. I recommend getting it with cheese melted with a blow torch.
3Let's Try!
Red wine beef stew soup curry with Kyo no Niku beef / ¥1,680
Kyo no Niku is a brand of beef from Kyoto, and its specialties are that the fibers are small and that it contains a lot of fat, so it’s full of umami. By using it in a stew, it drops the excess fat and makes the sweetness and umami stand out even more. This is a bit luxurious curry I recommend to those who like meat.
How to Order

Ohmiya menu

You can choose the spiciness on a scale of 1-5 and 10 (for an extra fee), so even if you don’t like spicy food, you can still enjoy it. You can choose the amount of rice from small, medium, big, and supersized. The chef is not only kind but can also speak English, so ordering should pose no problems.

- Order Tips -

The vegetables change seasonally. If you have any veggies you don’t like, tell the chef, and he will replace them with something else.

The most delicious way of eating soup curry

1. It contains a lot of spices, so stir it well before eating.

2. Take some rice on your spoon and then dip it into the soup, as this will make the rice suck up the soup.

3. When you only have a little bit of soup and rice left, throw all of the rice that is left into the soup. The rice will suck up the soup and you can enjoy the soup to the last drop.
