La Rotaonda – a relaxing hotel restaurant offering Basque X Kyoto cuisine
Opened in October 2018, La Rotonda is a Spanish restaurant belonging to Kyoto’s first-ever dispersed hotel, ENSO ANGO.
This restaurant offers an unheard-of new cuisine that combines local Kyoto ingredients with the dishes of Basque, Spain. The vegetables used at La Rotonda are grown in Kyoto’s Kamigamo and Tamba-sasayama regions, with the deer and boar meat also coming from Tamba-sasayama.
You may be thinking, “why Spanish cuisine at a hotel in Kyoto, Japan?”
Head chef Keisuke Ukibe says this was an intentional decision to give travelers, who have grown tired new and unusual foods, a place to relax and enjoy flavors close to those of their home countries. While living in Basque, Ukibe himself found the tastes of home, in his case Japan, becoming something he longed for. From this experience, he was able to create the cuisine offered at La Rotonda today, Kyoto ingredients utilized in authentic Basque dishes.
While La Rotonda is a hotel restaurant, everything from the morning buffet to dinner service are all open to the public. Additionally, with the open kitchen design, and a number of English speaking staff, you can relax and enjoy an open and friendly atmosphere.
If you’re looking to relax with a drink, enjoy good company, a delicious dinner, and soothe the mental strain of travel, then hit the star at the top of the page and make sure La Rotonda is on your itinerary.
