Takao Kanko Hotel

- 高雄観光ホテル -
Takao Kanko Hotel serves kaiseki cuisine made with seasonal ingredients of the four seasons of Japan
In front of Takao’s famous Jingo-ji Temple, you can find Takao Kanko Hotel. Although it has the word hotel in its name, it’s actually more like a ryokan than a hotel, and this can be seen and tasted in the dishes of its restaurant. Their rooms are Japanese in style, so they have tatami mats in them, and the hotel is surrounded by beautiful nature. Their food is prepared with the freshest seasonal ingredients available. In summer you can enjoy your food on the kawadoko dining platforms by the river, where the temperature is around five degrees lower than in the city center (this is the reason for Takao’s popularity as a sightseeing area in summer). Getting to sit outside, enjoy the nature of Takao, listen to the murmur of the river; it’s a special kind of an experience, especially as you get to eat exceptional food. At night you even get to enjoy the natural beauty of the dance of the fireflies and even get to see a maiko (apprentice geisha) dance. The kaiseki cuisine experience here on a kawadoko dining platform is sure to be an unforgettable one – it’s something that will become a great memory of your trip to Kyoto.
Dinner: Hotaru no Zen
Dinner: Hotaru no Zen / Without maiko dance: ¥7,700 (+tax) / With maiko dance: ¥9,300 (+tax)
There are two versions of their Hotaru no Zen (Firefly’s set meal): with or without a maiko dance. The set meal comes with umeshu (plum liqueur), matcha tofu, hassun platter, mukozuke with hamo (sea eel) and two kinds of sashimi, oshinogi (somen noodles with vegetables), grilled fish, tempura (hamo), cold bowl of small potatoes, pumpkin, and octopus, pickles, hamo soup, steamed eel on rice, and fruits.
Lunch: Sensu
Lunch: Sensu / ¥5500 (+tax)
They have three lunch options: Kawakaze (river wind), Sensu (folding fan), and Fuurin (wind chime). In the picture you can see Kawakaze, which contains a hassun platter with three appetizers, sashimi (both of the fish kind and tofu, grilled fish, seasonal grilled vegetables (eggplant, small potatoes, pumpkin), hamo and summer vegetable tempura, soup with edamame beans in it, and a dessert (a Japanese sweet wrapped in bamboo leaf and warabimochi served with kinako).

3Let's Try!
Maiko dance
It’s not easy to get to see a real maiko, even in Kyoto, especially this close. You also get to appreciate her graceful dance, so coming to have dinner here is an excellent choice.
Stay a night!
