Terazo Café makes healthy food exciting and fulfilling
Terazo Café is located close to Katsura Imperial Villa, and the café is a hit among the locals, especially during lunch hour when the restaurant is often fully booked with people enjoying their special Terazo Lunch. Their famous Terazo Lunch is an extravagant set of delicious dishes, from deep fried fish or chicken to steamed vegetables served with a nice dip. Terazo Lunch changes daily, but besides this, they also have other daily lunch sets too, so no matter how many times you go to the restaurant, you’re always going to have something new to try. They also have a nice selection of desserts, from cheesecakes to pancakes, and you can add them to your lunch set for a small extra fee, though the café is also a great place to have some afternoon tea. They have so much to offer that I’m sure you’ll find something you’ll like. So, if you’re going to the Katsura Imperial Villa, how about going to Terazo Café before or after your visit?
Terazo Lunch
Terazo Lunch / ¥1,280 (Including tax)
You get to taste the freshness of the seasonal vegetables in this lunch set. This day the lunch set contained deep-fried salmon with tartar sauce, a tofu Hamburg steak, sesame tofu, Japanese stewed vegetables, and some salad. Besides this, you also get steamed vegetables with a dip, rice, and of course miso soup too. If you’re really hungry, for 100 yen more you get to have as much rice and miso soup as you want.

This lunch set is different every day, and the day we went to Terazo we got to enjoy Japanese fried chicken, salad, and a set of three little appetizers. This set also comes with rice and miso soup. The set is different every day, so you will never get bored of it!
Terazo Salad

Terazo Salad / ¥750 (including tax)
Even though this is called a salad, it’s not a normal salad. It’s Terazo Salad, meaning it doesn’t only contain vegetables, but also deep fried chicken and tofu, and potato salad. Terazo’s handmade salad dressing crowns the deal. If you’re not especially hungry, this salad could become your lunch too. *The salad may not always be the same as in the picture.

The handmade cakes of Terazo are lined up in their showcase, and once you see them, it should be very hard not to order one. You can either order them with the lunch set, or you can order the cake set with only a cake and a drink. The matcha cheesecake actually has two layers, a cheesecake bottom layer, and a citrusy upper layer. The other cake in the picture is an apple cheesecake which is not at all sweet; in fact, only the apples are sweet, and the cake itself is a bit sour, making it taste absolutely delicious.

Even though their lunch set portions are big, I’d still recommend you also order a piece of cake too – their cakes are just so delicious!

Their healthy dishes contain a lot of vegetables, so for women like me, this is the perfect restaurant. I especially liked their Terazo Salad and steamed vegetables, as you really get to enjoy the taste of the vegetables themselves. The matcha cheesecake you can have as dessert was so good it goes on my list of the best matcha cakes, and even enters the top 3.

What’s great about Terazou Café is that you get a lot of food. But what’s even better is that the food is healthy! So you get to eat a lot of healthy food for a reasonable price. And their handmade cakes are to die for! They had the best matcha cheesecake I’ve ever had, and that's saying a lot, this being Kyoto, the home ground of matcha.
