Story & Recommendation
Enjoy yudofu and a great view to a tasteful Japanese garden in Arashiyama
A short walk away from the busy Togetsu-kyo Bridge, on the premises of Tenryu-ji Temple, you can find the restaurant Yudofu Sagano in a tasteful Sukiya-zukuri style building. The restaurant has been offering yudofu in Arashiyama for a long time. On the 3000 square meter premises of the restaurant they have two buildings, the main one and the new wing, and while the two-story main building has a Japanese garden, the new wing has table seating. The beautiful Japanese garden is surrounded by bamboos and trees and is well taken care of, and you can look at it from the Japanese seating area of the main building. They have only one menu item: the yudofu course that centers around their Saga-tofu with a delicate and gentle taste, and many small bowls of different dishes that go well with tofu. This relaxing restaurant is a nice place for a dinner with your special other, or just as a reward for yourself. If you want to truly experience Arashiyama, try yudofu.

Yudofu course
Yudofu set meal / ¥4,000 (tax included)
With this set meal menu, you get yudofu, 9 different dishes in small bowls, rice, and tsukemono pickles too. The melt-in-your-mouth tofu is, of course, delicious, but are the sesame tofu, vegetable tempura, shigureni (kelp boiled in sweetened soy sauce with ginger) of wheat gluten, and other dishes. Besides the dashi stock in the soy sauce, they don’t use meat or fish in the dishes, so this course is great for those who don’t like meat and fish. *Reservations can be made for the Yudofu set meal from early November to early December / late March to early April / April 29 to May 5.

Sagano Gozen
Sagano Gozen / ¥6,000 (tax included)
“Sagano Gozen” allows you to enjoy the restaurant’s specialty, boiled tofu, with a la carte dishes using seasonal Kyoto vegetables and yuba. Since it is a traditional Japanese style cuisine, it is served as a course meal, and you can savor it for one hour to one hour and a half. Seasonal ingredients are used in the dishes to elegantly express the changes of the seasons. There are many items to choose from, so be sure to come hungry! ※Sagano Gozen is not available for reservation from early November to early December/ late March to early April.

Fushimi’s sake
Fushimi’s sake
Regards to drinks, they have sodas, beer, sake, and wine. How about having some cold sake made in Kyoto’s Fushimi with your hot yudofu? The label on the bottle has the name of the restaurant on it and looks very nice.

Beautiful garden
Beautiful garden
The beautiful garden of the main building is a place where you can look at the beautiful Japanese garden while you enjoy delicious food. In spring and autumn, the season of cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, respectively, the window seats are especially popular. There are also tables in the garden that connects the main building with the new wing so you can also enjoy your tofu outside.
