Zezekan Pocchiri

Enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine at Zezekan Pocchiri, a restaurant located in a machiya townhouse that used to be a kimono store
This restaurant looks classically European from the outside, but inside it is a traditional machiya townhouse. This is rare even in Kyoto, and at this restaurant, Zezekan Pocchiri, you can enjoy Chinese imperial cuisine. The restaurant is located on a 661 square meter plot of land, and you can enjoy your authentic Chinese cuisine while you enjoy a view of the well taken care of garden of the restaurant. The restaurant is not only popular among the locals, but also among tourists. The tastes of the dishes that combine traditional Chinese recipes with local ingredients are very complex, and even among these dishes, their shark fin and turtle dishes are something that even the most seasoned food critics in Kyoto can’t get enough of. They sell pork dumplings called Shimidare Butaman during Gion Matsuri, and these pork dumplings are so delicious that there is always a line of people waiting to buy them. In the back of the garden, in a renovated old warehouse, you can find a bar called Pocchiri, where you can enjoy alcoholic drinks. They also offer lunch, so I wish you will visit this restaurant both for lunch and for dinner.

One of the most popular dishes at this restaurant is this dish, which uses shark fin, one of the most luxurious ingredients in Chinese cuisine. You can also enjoy other luxurious shark fin soups such as “golden simmer” and miso-crab. You can choose your shark fin from blue shark, salmon shark, and shortfin mako shark.

The Peking duck is crisp, and as expected, it’s one of the most popular dishes at this restaurant. You can choose from a half or whole duck. In the picture, you can see what a half a duck looks like.

They have a nice selection of seafood, also something very famous about Chinese cuisine, but I would like to recommend their large shrimp in garlicky chili sauce. You can eat this big shrimp with a knife and a fork, and the texture of it is also perfect.
